Celebrating World Book Day...
In celebration of World Book Day and the wonderful joy of reading we thought it was about time that we gave you all the opportunity to enjoy the story of The Golden Mango Tree online.
There is nothing quite like the feel of a book and the anticipation of turning a page, but sit back and relax whilst we do all the hard work for you! Here at Branching Out Books we encourage everyone to share their own story and to listen to those of their friends. World Book Day spreads that message far and wide as schools, libraries and booksellers encourage readers to explore a little further, listen more closely and find a book that they love. We will be in schools sharing our stories too but for those of you that won’t be there, don’t miss out! Sit back and enjoy our wonderful young reader telling you the story of her heritage and share it with the rest of the world if you can! |

The Golden Mango TreeWinner of the East Anglian Children's Book of the Year Award 2023
The Golden Mango Tree is a celebration of all that it means to grow up in a family with a diverse cultural background. It describes the bravery, hope and optimism required to uproot from all that is familiar, and to settle in a land where things are very different. It is a story that, we believe, will resonate with many and we hope that it will provide opportunities to open up discussions about how great it is to celebrate our differences and learn from each other.
Tochiko's fantastic illustrations transport the reader to a fishing village in China where the story begins and we meet the central character, Grandfather, and they provide a brilliant visual journey not only through time but also across the world. Get your own copy of this beautiful book here. |
'The Golden Mango Tree' winner of the East Anglian Children’s Book of the Year Award...
The judges of the East Anglian Children’s Book of the Year Award described The Golden Mango Tree as... "A delicious and joyful book about perseverance and hope. Beautifully illustrated, this tale of a family settling and integrating in a new world will be enjoyed by readers young and old. The local ties to Norwich make this story even more special, alongside the thoughtful educational questions included by the publisher. Overall, a triumph of a book.”

“I could not be happier that The Golden Mango Tree has won the Mal Peet Prize for the EABA. It is wonderful that our own family story has resonated with so many people, including the judges. The recognition spurs me on to publish more of my ideas representing those who currently do not see themselves in children’s literature, and to create more conversations about diversity and uniqueness. For me, this award illustrates that hope has no boundaries and that positivity and determination make anything possible, which also happen to be the themes of The Golden Mango Tree! I hope that it will serve as inspiration to others to tell their own story and spread love and peace.” Karen Li
Henry & The Anger Monster...We have written Henry’s Anger Monster as a stand-alone story for you to enjoy. It can, however, also be employed as a useful tool to talk with young children about their emotions and the effect that those emotions have on their behaviour. The story itself guides children through the emotions of anger and anxiety.
The workbook and guide give adults a deeper understanding of the challenges their child is facing, and tried and tested strategies to help resolve these issues. The pack has been used by many families to open up the discussion around anger, and work together towards a more positive future. You can get your copy here. Click here for Other Books & Poetry... |
