Henry & the Anger Monster
We have written Henry’s Anger Monster as a stand-alone story for you to enjoy. It can, however, also be employed as a useful tool to talk with young children about their emotions and the effect that those emotions have on their behaviour. Rachael’s fantastic illustrations provide much opportunity for discussion and the text incorporates tried and tested approaches used in therapeutic practice.
The story itself guides children through the emotions of anger and anxiety. The workbook and guide give adults a deeper understanding of the challenges their child is facing, and tried and tested strategies to help resolve these issues. The pack has been used by many families to open up the discussion around anger, and work together towards a more positive future. Should you require any further help developing the ideas within the story, or if you are a professional interested in using the story as part of teaching practice, then a work book is available to complement this book. 'Henry and the Anger Monster is the book that I was searching for five years ago, when struggling with anger issues in my own family. I have been an avid consumer of storytelling my entire life, beginning with my own bookish childhood, spending hours creating poems and stories and illustrating them in a very amateur way! For me, children’s books have always possessed magical powers as you get lost in their depths and feel removed from your own reality. It took me over forty years to discover that I could use this magical creativity in a positive way to inspire and help others who were struggling. It was only during my training as a hypnotherapist and counsellor that I started to make the connection between the power of a story and the role of the subconscious mind. The dramatic effect that this can have on our behaviour became more obvious when I started my practice and established myself as a specialist working with children and young people' Taken from the Introduction to the Workbook Guide Extract from The Workbook Guide: “Once the Anger Monster feels supported and reassured, he is able to tell Henry about the situation with his family. In the same way, a supported child will open up emotionally and more readily accept any help that is offered. Henry’s strategies for controlling his anger are.... The EDP Article, online now...

Henry was a lovely boy. He liked to scoot and play with toys. He liked to climb and bounce and run, to go outside and just have fun. His smile was loved by Mum and Dad, but sometimes Henry would look sad. And then it changed one fateful day – the Anger Monster came to stay...
Reviews for Henry and The Anger Monster
C.D, Parent'I found this book and the workbooks very helpful. My personal experience with my own son, being told that at 5 years old he was suffering with anxiety, came as a huge shock. I purchased lots of books to help me understand what my child was going through. We were placed on long waiting lists for him to get the help he needed, and I felt very alone.
Reading the Introduction to the Workbook I wish I had this available to me in the early years. Karen’s description of her own experience of living with a child with anxiety is helpful and reassuring. She has extracted all the important pieces of information that she used and put them into one easy-to-read manual. I feel this is invaluable to any parent or grandparent to help understand what these little humans are going through, and most importantly that as an adult you are not alone.' |
K.B'A beautifully illustrated story about a boy called Henry who is struggling with his emotions and handling anger. Henry’s relationship with the Anger Monster gently explores ways to handle anger, with the illustrations subtly supporting the character development.
The book has many layers enabling you to simply enjoy the story or to use it as a prompt text to dig into some of these significant issues with children and young people.' |
H.A, (Hypnotherapist & Counsellor)'Henry and the Anger Monster is a superb story written in an easy rhyming style appropriate for primary school age children. It flows well and it takes time for Henry and his monster to become established before introducing the changes.
The illustrations are colourful, creative and very meaningful. The workbooks are clear and concise, and they give the adult the opportunity to work through each point in detail with the child. A stunning book suitable for use at home, in the classroom or the therapy room.' |
